What a Seven-Year-Old Said That Made Patricia Finally Fix Her Teeth

Patricia avoided the dentist for decades. One innocent question from her great-grandson finally gave her the push she needed.

A Lifetime of Avoiding the Chair

Patricia's fear of dentists started young. She grew up in a military family overseas, with bright lights, unfamiliar faces, and long waits between appointments. As she grew up, the fear became a habit, and the habit became part of her life.

She got married, had kids, and built a career. But the dental work kept piling up. Every toothache was a problem to patch as cheaply and quickly as possible. She found plenty of excuses to stay away from the chair.

As she got older, her teeth began to break and fall out. Crowns and extractions did not last. She learned to hide her smile in photos, cut her food into small pieces, and give up her favorite foods one by one.

Why She Chose Dental Implants

By the time Patricia visited SPG Dental Implant Centers, she was used to checking her reflection before entering a room and thinking about what she could eat at every meal.

Then her seven-year-old great-grandson asked when the tooth fairy was going to bring her tooth. She had a tooth missing, and his question embarrassed her deeply. It was the final push.

She started researching dental implants that same week. After two decades of temporary fixes that kept failing, she was sure implants were the only permanent answer. She read about the process, watched patient stories, and weighed the cost, the recovery, and all the years she had put it off.

Meeting Dr. Olowokere

Patricia had white coat syndrome. The team at Springdale Dentures and Implants joked that there was nothing to worry about because everybody wears black. It broke the ice and set the tone for the whole experience.

Dr. Leke Olowokere explained everything clearly and took time to answer questions she had carried for years, some since childhood. He listened as she talked about the foods she had given up and the photos she no longer took.

By the end of the consultation, she had a clear plan. Dental implants would finally give her a permanent foundation, and the same doctor who guided her consultation would be with her through the healing process.

The Small Things Came Back

Now she wakes up, brushes her teeth, and realizes it does not hurt. She says it had been a very long time since she felt that, and feeling normal means a lot to her.

She did not realize how much she missed chewing a piece of gum or biting into a bite of steak. For years she had to cut everything up because her teeth were bad. Not anymore.

This summer, she and her husband are flying to Alaska to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Fifty years ago they married without a real honeymoon. Now the flights are booked, Patricia has a new dress, and they are bringing a camera and a list of places they have always wanted to see together.
