He Stopped Smiling in Public. Dental Implants Gave Him His Confidence Back.

Rich grew up without fluoridated water and left the dentist feeling judged. Decades later, one consultation flipped a switch in his life.

Growing up in rural Louisiana, Rich did not have access to fluoridated water. No one connected the water to his tooth problems. Things just got worse, and by his teenage years his dental issues were too big to ignore.

At 15, he visited a dentist and left feeling worse than when he arrived. It was not the dental work that hurt. It was how the staff treated him. He was doing his best to care for his teeth, but a couple of hygienists made him feel ashamed, like he was not even trying.

That experience stuck. He avoided regular dental care for years because he did not want to feel judged again. Then an accident at work broke a front tooth, one more setback for a smile that had already been through a lot.

When Eating Becomes Something You Fear

Most people do not think about their teeth when they eat. Rich did, every single time.

The pain had become constant, and it changed how he ate. He was scared to bite into anything that might break another tooth. So he gave up his favorite foods and switched to soft, processed meals. He gained weight, his energy dropped, and his health declined in ways that went far beyond his mouth.

The social cost was just as heavy. He says he lost his confidence, stopped wanting to smile, and started avoiding people. About two years before finding SPG, he tried partial dentures. They were uncomfortable, fit poorly, and did not solve his problems.

The Appointment That Changed Everything

He saw a commercial, drove past the center, and later booked an appointment online. The callback came in under an hour. That set the tone for everything that followed.

At his consultation at Little Rock Dentures and Implants, Dr. Kyle Hargis sat down next to him, made eye contact, and walked him through the whole process without rushing. No standing across the room. No reading off a chart. By the end of the conversation, Rich had made up his mind.

The procedure surprised him too. He was sedated during multiple extractions and felt almost no pain, during or after. When he looked in the bathroom mirror, he expected a mess. Instead, he saw pearly white teeth. Afterward, Dixie and Abby from the staff checked in on him often, and there was hardly any swelling or bleeding.

Life After Dental Implants

The change was not gradual. Rich describes it as a flip. One moment he was carrying years of shame, pain, and isolation. Then the procedure was done, and the weight was gone.

He started eating real food again, and his diet improved. He lost weight and began sleeping better because the pain was gone and the stress that kept him up at night had disappeared.

At work, colleagues noticed he was laughing and joining conversations instead of sitting quietly. He says he no longer feels sad or ashamed. He feels confident. He was always that person inside. He just needed dental implants and the right team to feel his best.
